Designed
for casual paddlers who do not often travel long distances
nor carry much gear. Recreational canoes are normally
short to mid-range in length, fairly deep and wide. They
also have relatively flat bottoms and are slightly rockered
to allow for easy manoeuvrability. Scott® recreational
canoes are designed for paddlers whose goal is enjoyment
in leisure waters with stability as a major concern.

| Touring |

Compared
to recreational canoes, touring canoes are usually longer,
sleeker and slightly deeper. They track straight, travel
distances with little effort and carry large loads.
Scott touring canoes are designed to feel very solid,
stable and offer excellent control in rougher waters keeping
you drier, safer and warmer thus adding to your paddling
pleasure.

As
the name suggests, a typical use for this type of canoe
is extended wilderness trips. Scott expedition hulls are
designed to perform very well with heavy loads and in
more extreme conditions. These canoes are very popular
with families tripping with children and carrying more
gear than taken on your average day trip.

All
ScottŪ Royalex and R-84 Royalite hulls are trimmed with
black synthetic gunwales, roto-molded decks, ash thwarts,
standard ash yoke and ash framed seats with black webbing.
Royalex
is a thermoplastic laminate consisting of a foam core
center, sandwiched between two solid ABS substrate layers
which are covered with vinyl skins. This composite is
strong, buoyant and of moderate weight. It is the toughest
canoe building material offering resistance to extensive
damage. R-84 Royalite is an additional material choice
in our Royalex family. R-84 Royalite has the same foam
core and ABS substrate as Royalex, instead of a vinyl
skincoat to protect the ABS from the ultraviolet rays
of the sun, the R-84 has a weatherable plastic skin, vulcanized
to the ABS substrate, that is lighter and stiffer than
the vinyl skin used on Royalex. This change on the skin
results in a very durable light, stiff and warp resistance
boat. More...

Aluminum Trim is standard on all Scott® fiberglass,
Kevlar® and expedition Kevlar® canoes. The gunwales
are a tough satin finished aluminum. Handles, thwarts
and nosecaps are also aluminum. The seats are constructed
of a durable maintenance-free aluminum hangers and sizeable
seat plates padded with comfortable closed cell ethafoam.
This package is economical, very tough and best of all,
maintenance free.
-
Slimline
Aluminum Trim trim system is standard on all Scott®
ultralite Kevlar® canoes. It is an optional trim
package for our fiberglass, Kevlar® and expedition
Kevlar® hulls. The slimline gunwales are less beefy
than our standard Scott® gunwales but are designed
to be lightweight and exceptionally strong. Canoes trimmed
with this package are consistantly six or more pounds
lighter than those with standard trim. Ash framed webbed
seats, ash thwarts, ash handles and an ash centre yoke
are all standard features which elegantly complete this
lightweight trim package. Slimline gunwales are available
with satin or black anodizing. These gunwales completely
hide all rivets and hardware creating a clean finish
which is pleasing to the eye.
-
Black
Vinyl Rail Package is a tough, maintenance-free
trim system available on all Scott® fiberglass,
Kevlar® and expedition Kevlar® canoes. It is
also available on ultralite constructed canoes; however,
expect a weight gain of approximately six plus pounds
to the listed weights of the ultralites.
Vinyl
rail-trimmed canoes come standard with wooden handles,
ash-framed black webbed seats, ash thwarts and an ash
center yoke. The vinyl rail trim system has proven to
be a tough partner in extensive continual-use situations
- another maintenance-free choice for those who prefer
the aesthetic combination of black trim and ash.
-
Wood
Trim Package is available on all Scott® fiberglass,
Kevlar®, expedition Kevlar® and ultralite Kevlar®
canoes. Each wood trim canoe is finished with hand selected
white ash which is custom fitted by skilled craftsmen.
Rounded inner and outer gunwales are pleasing to the
eye and even more pleasing on your hands while portaging.
All wood trim canoes come standard with ash webbed seats,
an ash centre yoke as well as ash decks, thwarts and
handles. All wood receives three coats of satin marine
finish. The finely crafted Scott wood trim package offers

Construction Descriptions

|
Kevlar®
This
laminate is the next step up from Fiberglass,
providing considerable weight savings. The
same rigid hull with a gentle flex. As our
most popular Kevlar® laminate, standard
Kevlar® is the choice of trippers and
recreationalists alike. This Kevlar® construction
is truly a time-tested honorable favorite
engineered for high performance and superior
durability. A canoe manufactured in Kevlar®
is an excellent long-term investment.
Fiberglass
Scott
Canoe® has been producing fiberglass canoes
since 1965. Over the years we have developed
this laminate to be moderate in weight, economical
and extremely durable. Our fiberglass canoes
provide a hull which has reasonable flex with
enough rigidity that "oilcanning"
should never be a problem. If you want a high
quality recreational canoe at a reasonable
cost, consider fiberglass.
Expedition Kevlar®
The
merit of this type of canoe is its durability
in harsh conditions and continual use. Hulls
constructed in an expedition laminate can
take a beating yet soundly survive these additional
demands - naturally a superb choice for extended
whitewater use.
These hulls use similar materials to those
used in our standard Kevlar® canoes, with
layers added, especially in high water areas.
As the sturdiest of our laminates, expedition
Kevlar® is popular among wilderness trippers
and those who expect extreme durability in
a lightweight canoe.
Ultralite
Carbon Kevlar®
These
boats are built specifically to meet the needs
of paddlers who demand the lightest canoe
possible. Carbon is a very stiff material
allowing for a rigid hull with less layers.
The result is a lighter hull, ideal for portaging
and loading on a vehicle, but as the laminate
is thinner these canoes are not designed for
the heavy wear and tear demanded of our Kevlar®
and Fiberglass hulls.

Sliding
Bow Seats
offer a simple solution to trimming your hull. In calm
water the canoe should ride level in the water. In rougher
water and waves the bow should be higher. Its easier
to move the seat rather than shift your gear, thus the
advantage of a sliding bow seat. |
